The Wolfen Tree

Years ago a band of thieves attacked a small village near the outskirts of Ravengro. The thieves believed they had gotten away without anyone following them, yet one of the villagers had a secret that allowed him to follow the thieves. He was a lycanthrope, and was able to track the thieves through the woods with little trouble. It took him a few days to find the thieves, yet when he did he realized that he would not be able to take on all the thieves at the same time without dying himself. Trying to devise a way to eliminate the threat, he was discovered by the thieves, and was captured himself. Instead of killing the man outright, the thieves decided to have some fun at his expense. They took turns thinking of ways to kill him, each one saying the worst thing they could think of in hopes of garnering a response from the man. Yet for each idea, no response was gained, and becoming angry that their fun was not getting the response they wanted, they took some rope, and hung the lycanthrope from the tree near the camp. His death was slow and painful, as he suffocated to death in the tree. While his death was never punished though the law, the bandits were eventually seen again, having all been hung from a tree, with ropes and vines from the forest. Some say from the very tree that the lycanthrope was hung from.
